SideSetter templates are half a hexie. This listing is for the large size. They come in three sizes:
small: 1¼” (unfinished edge), 1" (finished edge)
medium: 1 3/4" (unfinished edge), 1 1/2" (finished edge)
large: 2 3/4" (unfinished edge), 2 1/2" (finished edge)
This template enables you to sew geometric shapes without a paper foundation as one would use in traditional English paper piecing. This means there's no basting, and no gluing. Simply mark the dots at the holes (on the wrong side of the fabric) to indicate the beginnings and endings of seams, and then sew! You can sew them by hand OR machine. The registration lines on the templates make it easy to fussy cut motifs.
The SideSetter can be used in a variety of ways. If you are making a quilt entirely of hexagons, you'll need half-hexagons on two edges of the quilt and half diamonds on the other two edges. This template has both of those shapes (including the seam allowances). The SideSetter may also be used to frame a hexagon of corresponding size (choose a matching size Hexactagon template). An interesting pattern can be created by sewing two SideSetters together, making a hexagon from two contrasting fabrics.
